A big, bright and colourful musical will showcase the depth of Orange’s talent this October.
Orange Theatre Company is rehearsing The Boy From Oz, the famous musical based on the life of singer and songwriter Peter Allen and featuring songs he wrote.
Co-director Trevor Carroll said the regional theatre rights for the show recently became available.
“It really highlights a great Australian, and the songs are really familiar to people. It’s a show that enables us to highlight all the talent we have,” he said.
“The Boy From Oz is the only Australian musical ever to make it to Broadway.
“It’s pure entertainment, and it takes you on a wonderful journey,” Mr Carroll said.
Mr Carroll said the popularity of reality shows including Australian Idol and So You Think You Can Dance had encouraged interest in performing.
“It’s helped remove some of the stigma from singing and dancing, particularly for young men. We’re conscious of trying to support younger performers coming through, and making the most of the talents they have,” he said.
The Boy From Oz will open on October 24.
